Ha this has helped me no end! Bit late to it, sorry, (as I’m late to Substack writing, as I’m late to trying freelancing) but it struck such a chord felt need to make my first ‘comment’. Here’s to the yoga and cake days

I watched the first three episodes of the show last night and I couldn't sleep. It's really good. And really disturbing. I keep thinking about the author, putting himself out there like that is very brave, and re-living the story enough times to write it out in a compelling way? Urgh. Tough stuff. But also, if this was written by a girl, just as disturbing, would it have gained so much popularity? Who knows.

I also found it so creepy! And yes, so strange that it is based on real life. I wonder on the girl thing - I do think it’s interesting to hear about a female stalker as usually it’s the other way round. I read this today by a woman who was stalked by a woman which was interesting. https://unherd.com/2024/04/the-complicated-truth-about-being-stalked/

Let me know what you think if you watch the next four episodes!

This is so wonderful, so perfectly captured! I have gone the other way round – freelance since uni, and at 37, I got a job. I thought the security of the regular paycheck would be worth a 9–6. After almost two years, I can see what an impact a full-time job has had on me. Parts of my identity are disappearing because I don't have the time or energy to tend to them. Ultimately, it's our life, our time, our freedom. It's such an uphill battle at times – the challenges of being a freelancer, but as long as you've got the energy and have the good days, do keep going and don't give up. You might find this article interesting. Although it doesn't specifically mention the freelance versus full-time comparison, the ideas about how your job shapes your identity are still very relevant: https://www.theschooloflife.com/article/how-your-job-shapes-your-identity

That article was so interesting - thanks for sending it. Terrifying to think how work moulds our brains and our characters like that. And thanks for your perspective - so interesting! Yes, I think I'm going to keep going and not give up - at least for now!

I've been freelancing (various jobs) for 4 months now, and the good/bad day thing is too real! It's a terrifying seesaw of emotions to be on, but nonetheless the times I'm able to find my feet on the ground have been an absolute saver. Thank you for this piece, it was just what I needed in what's been a 'bad' week. And congratulations on 6 years being sober!! <3
